Cisco’s Connected Black Professionals celebrate Black History | The Network

Connected Black Professionals (CBP) Chapters from across the United States joined together on February 14th to celebrate Black History Month. The Connected Black Professionals Employee Resource Group (ERO) invited Cisco leaders such as Hilton Romanski, Joe Cozzolino, and Ehrika Gladden to add support and perspective for this unique event. The celebration—called “Spirit of Excellence: Own It”—held viewing parties in Chicago, Raleigh, New York, Dallas, Lawrenceville, and more. The event was also broadcasted over Cisco TV and made available to any employee who wished to join.

The annual event commemorating Black History Month brought Global Executive Sponsor and Cisco SVP and Chief Strategy Officer, Hilton Romanski, as the opening speaker.

Romanski reminded audiences that they must own their career path and that once successful, they should consider using their career experiences and success to give back to the community.

Ehrika Gladden, Connected Black Professionals’ Executive Advisory Board Member and Cisco’s VP of Technology and Market Development, shared with viewers that she was a proud 14-year member of CBP. “This ERO is thriving, growing, and executing at a global scale to local commitment,” said Gladden.

On successful leadership, Gladden mentioned that  people must first know their voice and strengths, choose to have transparent conversations, and find their passion.

“CBP has always been important for me as a way to give back to my community in the same way that it gives to me,” says Gladden, “It’s a diverse and global community that enriches me through examples of courage, boldness and resiliency in the workplace and through volunteerism.”

On the Black History Month celebration, Gladden says, “This event is important, because it brings all of our chapters together to remember a history that fuels employee engagement in our day jobs, as well as our commitment to CBP and volunteerism.”
